Key Responsibilities and Expectations:

We are looking for aSenior Electrical Engineer who will provide design engineering support for hydro generator refurbishment projects related to IPS's Hydro Services business. This is a remote position. As the Senior Electrical Engineer, you will:

  • Provide Engineering's overall approach for the design of the hydro generator refurbishment (all OEM designs). This includes development of the technical offering/Proposal during the initial quotation phase, conducting design and risk reviews of key components and resolution of technical issues.
  • Create/finalize the electro-magnetic design for rewinds, uprates and upgrades of hydro generators, from initial request for quote through project execution
  • Provide design leadership to Drafting organization for all component part/assembly drawings and Parts Bills of Materials
  • Develop design standards and practices for use by the Hydro Services business
  • Provide technical solutions to customers on a wide array of topics (i.e. unit uprate capability, insulation systems, generator repair techniques, stator bar/coil designs, etc.)
  • Maintain/continue development of quality suppliers (i.e. understand drawing requirements, raw materials, tolerances, etc.)
  • Provide support to site Field Engineer and winding team throughout execution phase of projects

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field of study from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in hydro generator design
  • Ability and willingness to travel, as needed
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred
  • Considerable experience with the design, manufacture and service of Hydro generators (all OEM designs)
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • stator bar/coil insulation systems related to hydro generators
    • electromagnetic designs related to hydro generators
    • hydro generator construction, including stator core and windings, rotor poles and mechanical components
    • all winding supplies supporting stator rewinds, their installation sequence and test requirements
    • Hydro Generator Work Instruction documents and ability to support on-site craft labor and Field Engineers
    • Industry standards (i.e. IEEE, IEC, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • simplify and improve design and site installation procedures
    • handle a diverse workload
    • support training of Hydro Field Engineers
    • analyze technical specifications, tender documents, and proposals, and develop detailed design/service offerings

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, carry items up to 50 lbs.
