Job Summary

Responsible for performing various technical procedures for patients and obtaining medical information from patients during their office visits and for using this information to perform related tasks. Assists with obtaining pre-certifications and performing referrals when needed for patients.

Accountabilities

  • Obtains brief medical history and chief complaint from patient. - 5%

  • Maintains patient's medical record via electronic medical record.\u00A0 \u2013 5%

  • Sets up and assists with office procedures.\u00A0 - 5%

  • Performs within scope of training and certification to do procedures/tests including: Autorefraction using the Topcon Autorefractor, refraction using the Jackson Cross Cylinder Method, Humphrey visual field, OCT, IOL master, Pachymeter, checking vision using Snellen Chart, Goldman Tonometry or Tonopen, brightness acuity testing, Sonometric scans, stereo testing, color deficiency testing, EOM's checking pupils for Afferent Pupillary deficiency. \u2013 40%

  • Assist physician by scribing, and performing various tasks during patient exam.\u00A0

    \u2013 20%

  • Schedules surgeries, follow up appointments and referrals as requested. Obtains pre-certification for all surgeries.\u00A0\u00A0\u2013 5%

  • Phones/faxes in prescriptions for glasses per physician orders.\u00A0 \u2013 5%

  • Receives and returns phone calls, forwarding those requiring physician action. \u2013 5%

  • Monitors and maintains stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.\u00A0

    \u2013 5%

  • Provides education/training to patient/family. \u2013 5%

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • Medical Terminology - highly preferred

Knowledge, Skills or Abilities

  • Basic computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and data entry

  • Knowledge of office equipment (fax/copier)

  • Mathematical skills

  • Related Optic Equipment

  • Previous Ophthalmology experience - Preferred
