DLZ is looking for a dynamic Transportation Engineer to join our team in Lansing, MI.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform engineering and design assignments of a various complexities often requiring application of specialized technical expertise performed independent of other personnel.
  • Coordinate with other engineers and technical support staff in the preparation of detailed drawings; review and check finished drawings.
  • Prepare contract specifications, proposals, construction cost estimates, and construction time determination.
  • Exercise professional judgement in autonomous decisions.
  • Perform work under close supervision and provide support to more experienced personnel.
  • Direct less experienced engineers and technical support staff in the preparation of plans and specifications for transportation related projects.
  • Perform traffic engineering and design assignments of a varied nature.
  • Oversee entry-level engineer design activities.
  • Prepare client progress reports.
  • Follow established Quality Control procedures on all tasks.
  • Conduct or supervise field activities.
  • Assist in business development within the firm's business development program.
  • Initiate and maintain contact with key professionals and officials of other organizations and companies, maintaining working relationships at all levels.
  • Perform all work in a safe and responsible manner, in accordance with the Health and Safety Plan.
  • Become an active member in civic/professional activities, societies, and organizations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
  • 3 to 5 years' experience in Roadway/Transportation Engineering
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within six (6) months.
  • Ability to obtain Professional Engineering (PE) License in Michigan within two (2) years.
  • Experienced in use of OpenRoads Designer and/or Civil 3D.
  • Experience with MDOT and/or Local Agency Federal Aid projects.
  • Experience with drainage design and MS4 compliance is preferred.
  • Experience with GIS and PASER ratings is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point
  • Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites and complying with all applicable safety codes and requirements.
