Job Description

Job Summary

This position is responsible for supporting construction teams with quality tasks and overall quality improvement, while ensuring alignment with Graniterock's Family Vision, Core Purpose, Core Values, Strategic priorities, and business objectives.

Essential Job Accountabilities

  1. Comply, understand, and promote safety initiatives to ensure "Safety Before All Else."
  2. Lead project and construction teams with technical support, specification requirements, technical aspects of materials, and specification interpretation. Lead construction quality and process improvements and assist project teams in implementing project QC programs, meeting QC requirements, and provide technical support with specification requirements prior to construction start-up and throughout the project. Act as a resource to construction teams for technical aspects of materials and specification interpretation.
  3. Lead Company efforts to measure and track pavement smoothness for new & previous paving projects. Counsel Project teams with understanding of smoothness requirements and efforts necessary to achieve specifications, as well as potential incentives for exceedingly smooth pavements.
  4. Lead Project & Grinding Teams with locating and correcting pavement roughness on existing and newly rehabilitated pavements.
  5. Guide paving crews with better paving practices to improve pavement quality and specification compliance for density & smoothness, and ultimately reduce density pay reduction and costly corrective diamond grinding.
  6. Coordinate project and laboratory testing personnel requirements to ensure internal staff is utilized effectively and ensure resource sharing between GRC labs. Manage and coordinate outside QC test lab subs utilized on projects and in the lab.
  7. Partner with Integrated Joint Ventures as necessary with QC/QA and or other processes. Work with Project Team on SFO and other Airport projects.
  8. Plan and integrate on all Quality Department tasks and initiatives including though-mix design development, technical support, QC testing, research, quality issues and customer support.
  9. Lead paving project "Lessons Learned" information gathering, documentation, and evaluation to better understand root causes for paving challenges encountered on projects, and implementation of improvements. Coordinate with project team, paving team, and quality team.
  10. Oversee and develop best practices for other construction processes such as soil/subgrade/fill placement, compaction & testing, AB/CTB/CIR placement & testing, etc.

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred, or equivalent combinations of technical training and related experience.
  • Regional or State Agency certification(s) for material being sampled, tested and inspected required.
  • 4+ years in construction materials field, lab testing, or similar experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work under little or no supervision while performing required testing and other daily tasks
  • Must be able to work in alignment with Graniterock's Safe Work Practices, Core Purpose, Values, and Objectives, and support "One Company" principles.
  • Must be a self-starter and manage his/her day to day tasks
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office products
  • Demonstrated exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
  • Must be able to work various shifts, including overnight, as required by business needs
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs safely from floor to hip height repeatedly throughout day
