POSITION DESCRIPTION - Maintenance Mechanic
Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic Department: Maintenance
Classification: Hourly/non-exempt
General Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance / Production Manager, this position exists to repair, install, and enhance equipment in the facility to operate in a safe and efficient manner.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Follows all plant policies and practices to ensure safety, quality, service, and cost objectives are met. Practice continuous quality improvement in all processes. Fully supports Bostik's goal of zero workplace safety incidents and supports and participates in Bostik's EHS Programs.
2. Repairs manufacturing, packaging, material handling, and process equipment with minimal supervision.
3. Assists in maintaining an accurate inventory of maintenance items through activities such as: proper reporting of material usage, minimizing wastes, and organization of supplies.
4. Reports any spills or unique situations that adversely impact safety or the environment.
5. Assists in maintaining an acceptable level of housekeeping.
6. Completes all required paperwork accurately.

Reporting Relationships:
Direct report to Maintenance / Production Manager; shift supervisor (if applicable). No direct reports.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
1. Knowledge - understanding of production/operations; knowledge of Bostik products; be able to read, understand and follow formula / batch cards / procedures; basic math skills (counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). Must have understanding of maintenance processes, applications and terminology related to manufacturing. Use of hand and power tools. Must safely repair electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, plumbing, mechanical, and carpentry systems. Welding, millwrighting, and blueprint and schematic reading.
2. Logical Reasoning - employee must understand how his/her actions/lack of action impacts our ability to maintain a safe work place, provide quality products, maintain costs, and service customers. Must understand the importance of reporting all incidents related to safety and to the environment.
3. Planning/Organizing - employee will, under limited supervision of the shift supervisor and work leader (if applicable), perform various tasks which employee will need to complete in a logical and efficient manner; will need to organize work area for maximum safety and efficiency; foresee potential items that would cause accidents, spills, or downtime and proactively address.
4. Decision making - employee will make decisions that affect his/her personal safety, risk to the environment and the quality of our products which, in turn impacts service to our customers. Must know when to go to higher authority for authorization or when uncertain about a situation / issue.
5. Interpersonal skills - employee must work cooperatively with other line operators, forklift drivers, temporaries, other employees, plant management, and vendors when applicable. Complaint resolution procedure to be followed in resolving issues.
6. Communication skills - employee must communicate effectively with co-workers and with work leaders/supervisors/plant management. Must resolve conflict in acceptable manner.
7. Business knowledge - must understand the impact of decisions on safety, the environment, and our ability to service customers as well as cost control and on-going continuous quality improvement in all aspects.
8. Ownership of Actions - employee must understand and take ownership for his/her actions or lack of actions. Must operate in a manner that focuses on safety, quality, service, and the betterment / well-being of all employees and customers.
9. High School diploma, or GED.
Physical Requirements
1. Average hours per week: 40 plus OT as needed Core Hours: Set Shift Times.
2. Shift work: Must be flexible to provide coverage for all shifts if needed.
3. Types of machines/equipment: mixers, blenders, pumps, valves, packaging equipment, forklift, labeling equipment, hand tools, power tools, testing equipment.
4. Vehicles/moving equipment: forklift / pallet jack, personnel lift.
5. Time spent/day: Standing = 75% Walking = 10% Sitting = 5% Driving = 10%
6. Work is: Inside = 85% Outside = 15%
